I'm guessing these are some of the dumber ones. The smarter ones don't seem to pull scams via the internet on ladies in the same country they are in.

ten million baht is like $300,000, US.

They nickeled and dimed these poor ladies, and probably took every baht of savings they had.

I'll try to find the other article where they arrested a nigerian and his thai GF who were seemed to be mostly acting as check mules.
This was 3 days earlier

Two alleged members of an online-fraud gang — a Thai woman and her Nigerian boyfriend — have been arrested in Samut Prakan, have been accused of swindling more than 5 million baht from victims via Facebook,...

They mention the Nigerian had no thai entry stamps in his passport, so he was there 'unofficially'.

You can call it profiling or racist, but it seems they should stick out a little in these SE Asian countries?

:D

I think the colored folders on the table with the phones in the pictures are prepaid cellphone card folders.
Thailand recently began to require ID and registration of prepaid cell phone sims.

It´s already hard enough to pull the most basic scam details, such as email and phone numbers used, out off them, on a truely anonymous web forum. It must be a mixture of still in denial and feelings of shame and not wanting to have to do anything with it any more. I have understanding for this but it doesn´t make scamhunting any easier if too few come forward.

In Asia you also have the 'face' aspect.

A lot of the scams of middle-aged Chinese ladies go unreported, they're too ashamed to speak up.

Part of accepting you were scammed is acknowledging you screwed up.
